How to Enter an Airport Lounge
There are four ways into a lounge, and two of them are open to passengers on economy tickets. This guide walks through each method's conditions, its cost, and what you will be asked for at the door.
The four entry methods
1. One-time purchase
The most direct route, requiring no membership, no annual fee and no special ticket. You buy access only for the flight you are taking; once your payment is confirmed, your digital entry pass is issued.
Best for: people flying a few times a year. Whenever a membership fee divided by the entries you would actually use exceeds the one-time price, this method is cheaper.
At the door: boarding pass + digital entry pass.
2. Ticket class
A business or first-class ticket grants access to the airline's own lounge. If the flight is operated by a partner airline, which lounge applies can differ.
Best for: those already flying business. Not valid for economy tickets.
At the door: boarding pass (the class is printed on it).
3. Credit card privilege
Some premium cards offer a set number of free entries per year. Two things get overlooked: the benefit is usually tied to a monthly spending condition, and which lounges are covered varies by bank. Do not count on a lounge without verifying your card's coverage before the flight.
Best for:existing cardholders. Paying a premium card's annual fee just for lounges usually does not pay off for someone flying fewer than 6 times a year.

4. Membership programmes
Programmes such as Priority Pass and LoungeKey give access to a wide lounge network in return for an annual fee. Some tiers include unlimited entries; others cap them per year or charge per entry.
Best for: people flying 10 or more times a year.

What happens at entry, step by step
- Complete check-in and collect your boarding pass.
- Pass through security screening (and passport control on international flights).
- Find the lounge on the departures level. Signage reads "Lounge" or "CIP".
- Show your boarding pass and entry document at reception.
- Your entry is recorded and your stay time starts counting from that moment.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the wrong side — domestic and international lounges are separate with no passage between them. A pass issued for the domestic side will not work in the international terminal. - Going too late— with less than an hour to departure, most of the lounge's benefit is lost.
- Not buying entry for guests — every entry covers one person; companions need their own.
- Not verifying card coverage — with credit card privileges, lounge coverage varies by bank; the door is a bad place to find out.
- Ignoring overstay rules — if the flight is delayed, a 2-hour entry may not be enough. The limit is declared per lounge: the IGA Lounge page states 2 hours.
